Writing a successful CV

By: James Walsh

When we apply for an interview, only our CV speaks on behalf of us. Without seeing our face, or without knowing anything about us, the prospective employer will invite us only after going through the CV. It is a self-marketing tool and should win more interviews. It should force the recruiter to think that the candidate has very good efficiency and can be a prospective employee. As a recruiter spends not more than thirty seconds to go through a CV, within that time limit, it should grasp the attention and get the best chance of obtaining the interview.

Moving on to a different company is possible only through a professionally written CV; only then, the chances of getting the job which we desire will get maximised. We can sell our talents through CV. That is why it is highly important to have perfection in that.

CV should not be long. The lengthy CVs will not serve our purpose. Rather it should be brief and well-explained. Two pages are ideal, and instead of putting everything in paragraphs, bullet pointing methods would be more appealing. This makes our CV to be read more easily.

CV should cater to the needs of the prospective employer and one should eliminate the things which are not necessary to the company to which he/she is applying. We can also mention years of experience in our previous companies rather than mentioning the months. This could help one to cover up the chronological gaps. While including any of the information, we should think twice whether it is going to help in our case or not.

It is better to write a CV as soon as we are out of the college. This is the best time to draw a professional CV and it should be made ready for job opportunities. It should be updated once in six months or as developments take place. For instance, if we complete any training program or diploma it should be included in the CV immediately.

Each and every time we apply for a new job we should draft the CV afresh. It should be completely redrafted. Many people prepare a general CV and post it to all the companies by changing the covering letter alone. It is known that each job is different from the other and in need of various requirements. So a common CV will not be applicable to all. Before drafting a CV one should have researched a little bit about the company’s background, and the personal talents suitable to that position should be highlighted.

It should be written in such a way that it is suitable to the prescribed job requirements. We should have our master CV in our computer, so that it can be changed according to the profile of the company to which we are applying for.

There are many companies in the field which are specially equipped to draft CVs for others. It has become one of the commercial fields in the service sector. Online CV writing services are offering excellent packages economically. One can get their CV drafted within 24 hours. Some of the online services even offer instant CVs through which one can get the CV ready as they provide information.

Many CV services are also having express services which means that they will produce CVs within four hours of making a request. The online CV services are also offering money-back guarantee which allows the clients to claim their money if they are not satisfied with the work. They can also cancel the order and get the money back.

Getting CVs through professional companies is very much easy. Since they deal with large number of CVs every day, they can do it perfectly. All one needs to do is to fill up the application form which asks for all the personal and professional information. Once the clients are registered with the CV provider’s concern, they will become a lifetime client. They will get the updated CVs and will be contacted by the consultants. The consultants will clarify the doubts from the clients and will give suggestions to improve the weaker areas.

Thus, a properly written CV helps in getting a good job sooner than one expects.
