Window tinting training

By: Rick Appleson

This article reviews the different training options for window tinting.

According to experts, window films is a one billion dollar business, with 10,000 dealer/installers across the country. In general, the window tinting business can be divided into car, residences and commercial. Most start-ups focus on installing window tints on residences and commercial properties, because of the intense competition in the automotive sector.

Tinting windows is not an easy thing to do. Although it may seem like a fairly easy process and not a lot of money are required to get started, you need a lot of training and experience. At the end, your success in this field depends largely on the skills and techniques you have. Automotive window tinting has become one most profitable and rapidly growing segment of the aftermarket industry in America.

As mentioned, you don't need a lot of money or tools to get started. Installation is quick, the whole thing costs less than 300$ (depending on the car), while the benefits that it provides are well worth the upgrade. You can save about $150 if you tint the windows of your card by yourself, but there are certain tricks, which you might initially be aware of. Therefore, you need window tinting training.

Of course, tinting windows yourself saves money, but you must have the necessary know-how. Or you might know something about that, but have limited experience and still aren't completely confident in your abilities. So how can one receive a proper window tinting training?

One option is to learn at a window tint shop. However, there is a major problem here, because you will be asked to sign a non-compete contract. The idea here is that those companies don't want to just give away their 'know-how' and techniques for nothing. According to this non-compete agreement, you don't have the right to open your own shop in the next 2-5 years.

An alternative is to visit window tinting seminars, but they don't come cheap either as the price is between $2,000 and $5,000 for 1-2 weeks. Yes, they are effective, but the price is quite high. Lately, the Internet has sort of changed all this introducing a new way of window tinting training.

Online courses are a very cost-effective way and you can also study at your own pace. You register a given website, pay with a credit card and receive access to videos, documents (pdf), pages and you can also forward any questions you may have to real professionals. Those online programs are categorized depending on the skill - starter, pro and advanced.

The window tinting business holds an opportunity for you! Window tinting can be learned right where you are, at your own pace, and can be done part-time for extra money while you slowly develop your skills until you are ready to take the "plunge" and open your own shop. If you already have car shop, then you can add this service and bring some additional revenue.
