Using an Internet Speed Test to Check Your Connection Speed

By: Thomas Haddelin

With cable and DSL creating faster Internet browsing, having a decent speed test can keep you informed to your connection strength. Finding an Internet speed test for free and actually useful can be a pain.

Be careful when searching for a free speed test. Most contain malware that can actually damage your computer. More often than not though, most "Free" Internet speed tests don't even work.

Eventually you might actually find one that doesn't have some form of malware attached to it. Unfortunately, the program may not even work.

Over 70% of households have at least one(1) ISP.

At least 60% have cable Internet.

86% of these don't get a free speed test with their Internet.

Not paying to check something as simple as your internet speed is just plain fair. Most households can barely afford the Internet so why pay just to test it?

I didn't, and after hundreds of trials and errors (Not to mention getting rid of all the spyware I collected along the way) I finally found a few Internet speed test sites worth adding to my favorites. The basic idea is this... Find one that actually works, doesn't cost anything to use, and doesn't give your computer spyware, and start checking your connection from time to time just to see how your ISP is doing.

Take care, Thomas Haddelin
