Tree Planting Absorbs the Global Warming from Travel

There are a number of estimates for the amount of global warming that takes place after an airplane flight. Carbon dioxide, water vapor and other unburned fuels contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Hmmm, what can a savvy, avid and concerned traveler do? As I write this review, the news carries a report of a test by Boeing of a renewable biofuel in a jet. Bravo! The cost might be 50% more expensive fuel, but at least it is a renewable fuel.

Still, there is the physical presence of water vapor in the higher atmosphere that makes airplane contrails a significant contributor to global warming. Just placing water vapor at high altitudes has an effect. To read more, go to wikipedia.org and search "Contrails"...

The main point here: Plant trees to offset the carbon effect of your traveling. For rough guidelines, calculate one tree for every 1,000 miles of flying,

one tree for 2,000 miles of driving

one tree for two days of cruising.
