The Skamper Ramp: Your Dog's Newest Swimming Supply

By: Ajeet Khurana

Many times in the past tens of thousands family pets met their demise in accidents in the swimming pool. With the majority of US residents having outdoor lives in the summer months, this is not a surprise. It is rather common to take the dog with you. We take so many steps when it comes to protecting our children from the pitfalls of water danger, what are we doing for our capricious canine? When your dog falls into your pool, it is true that they will be able to swim for a period of time, but if you can not help them soon enough, they will fall prey to fatigue and their chances of drowning increase. Is there a solution to prevent this tragedy? One company has created one, and if you are a dog and a pool owner, you are going to want to take consideration towards the purchase of a new swimming supply for your animal this year. It's called the Skamper Ramp.

The Skamper Ramp produces and distributes this swimming supply for animals in two sizes - regular, and Big Dog. This is a safeguarded exit or entrance ramp from the pool to poolside that your cherished one can handle himself. It is both chemical and UV retardant, and is essentially a plastic ramp with wing strips, nylon rope attachments and fasteners, and some D-Ring clips for attaching it to the side of your pool.

You will have to make sure to train your dog how to use this nouveau swimming supply. It has been shown that animals that have always fended for themselves will instinctively understand how to use the Skamper Ramp in the event of an emergency. But the more domesticated your dog is, the more he will need to shown how to use this safety device. Take your pet right in the pool with you, and show them how they can climb right out of the pool using the ramp. If they are initially unhappy with, put one of their favorite treats on the pool side at the top of the ramp. As always when you are using food to incentivize your dog, only do this once or twice or they will expect this every time they climb out of the pool.

If the Skamper Ramp isn't 100% foolproof and you still have concerns about their pool safety, invest in a life jacket. There are many pet stores online that offer all different sizes of them, and you can get them in a variety of colors as well. Dogs love to be in the water, but if they feel the least bit unsafe, problems will arise. There is no reason you can't protect them the same way you would protect your children. So now you know what to this this summer.
