The Cause of Pimples and Acne

Before getting into the cause of pimples, or acne, we should discuss the types of acne people generally have to deal with. The two main types are inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. If you have blackheads or whiteheads, or both, then you have non-inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne is harder to identify, and the symptoms are papules, pustules, and sometimes even nodules and cysts.

The cause of pimples and acne is a vast subject, with theories ranging from hormones to stress. Some of the causes are hormones, especially during puberty and a woman's menstrual cycle. Taking Birth control pills and pregnancy, also affect the hormone balances in the body, and can lead to acne outbreaks. Many of the old myths about eating sweets or candy have basically been disproved, but having said that, if eating certain foods seems to lead to an increase in pimples, then it would probably be best to stop eating it.

When treating acne, like many things in life it is better to try and prevent acne outbreaks rather than cure them. Simple habits such as keeping your skin clean, and wearing clean garments, and sleeping in clean bedding can help prevent or reduce acne and pimples. There are also many acne treatments and medications on the market. Getting some good advice from your doctor or pharmacist is always a good starting point, but be aware that a treatment which works for one person may not necessarily work for someone else. Squeezing pimples is generally regarded as a bad idea, as this practice can result in scarring.

Acne is a nasty affliction which does not discriminate between people of different nationalities or backgrounds. Unfortunately some of people are afflicted more severely than others. Acne can be controlled, and the best way to do this is to arm yourself with information about the cause of pimples and the best practices and treatments available to combat this horrible disease. Getting the information, and acting upon it will go a long way to getting a beautiful pimple free skin.
