RV Accessories For The Modern Family

By: Jerry Grossman

Do you remember the RV (Recreational Vehicles) of many, many years ago? I do - - painfully. They were generally poorly built, small, pitiful cramped little metal boxes on wheels. But today's RV's are not like that, not at all. And modern families, like yours, can enjoy all the comforts of home when traveling -- if the right kinds of RV accessories are included. And we'd like to outline for you just what some of them are.

The first thing you should make sure that you have installed in your RV is a good-quality RV air conditioner. If you are traveling during the summertime, or to any of the southern states in the U.S., then an RV air conditioner is essential -- it is NOT a luxury item. Heat exhaustion is a killer of many people each summer - don't you be one of them. Of course, no air conditioner is cheap, but I GUARANTEE that you will never regret buying one for your RV. Make that the number one purchase on your list.

Next should be an RV backup camera. Why do you need this? Do you really need to ask? Haven't you had enough frustration trying to park your rig, not being able to see what you are doing? With an RV backup camera, you will be able to see exactly what is in back of you, and you will be able to navigate blind spots and tight corners with ease. If you have damaged your rig while backing up, you know that the repairs can be costly - save yourself that expense, as well as all of the frustration; get an RV backup camera.

Want a more mundane recommendation? Well, how's your RV holding tank? You know, the big tank under your rig that holds all thewell, you know. Have you ever had one LEAK on you? Not a pretty sight, I can tell you (or a pretty smell, either). So get yours inspected, and if necessary, get a new one installed.

And since you're at it, you might as well have your fresh water tank inspected as well, as this is the tank that you will draw your fresh water from while you are on the road, away from any campsite. And when you get that inspected, make sure that your water pump is inspected as well - this device maintains adequate water pressure throughout your RV fresh water system. If your RV water pump goes belly-up, you will be left high and dry.

Here's some further recommendations: Bring along a good quality TV set. Why bother, you ask? Aren't we supposed to be on vacation? Well, what if you want to see the big game? What if it's raining outside and the kids have nothing to do? You know you need it, so bring it along.

But unless you want your kids to stare into a blank, dark screen, you will also need to invest in an RV satellite antenna. Without one of these devices you will not be able to receive any TV signals while vacationing.

Well, those are my recommendations. Vacationing this year in your RV can be a tremendously wonderful experience, but after all we need some comforts out there, don't we? See you on the road this summer!
