Limited Funds? No Problem! Let’s Decorate!

By: decorwerx

1. When figuring out your re-decorating budget, be sure to include funds for accessories such as toss cushions, pillows, lamps, picture frames, etc.

2. Do your budget for one room at a time and decide to purchase first, the things that are most important within that room. When trying to figure out a decorating budget for an entire house, things get confusing very quickly. Keep it short and sweet, one room at a time.

3. Set a date by which your project will be complete. Stay with a classic style and color schemes. Stay away from trendy looking pieces of furniture and accessories. That way, you won’t find yourself re-doing this space every year.

4. When shopping for household items, price isn’t always your only contributing factor. Consider also the quality of the pieces that you are purchasing. If you’re looking at investing more than you originally budgeted for say, a drop dead gorgeous sofa that you absolutely love which is of amazing quality, and staying within your budget, but purchasing a sofa that is less expensive, but not nearly within your standards with regard to quality, you might be better off to spend a little more on the better quality item, rather than make the compromise and have to replace the less expensive sofa before you had hoped.

5. Plants are an inexpensive way to liven up a room. If you have a green thumb, purchase plants early in the season, and buy them when they’re young. Use your gardening skills to nurture them until they’re the size that you want for your space.

7. Paint and wallpaper/borders go a long way in updating a room, and most often don’t cost a lot.

8. Like purchasing a home, colors and patterns in your home should be seen during daylight hours before making a purchase.

9. Utilize Area Rugs - The right area rug can anchor any furniture arrangement. Find one that fits into your environment.

10. Find accessories that you love - There are lots of great deals at various online shopping sites, some that search out the most unique items and best deals for you. So in addition to finding the items that you love, you’ll also be getting great deals from the comfort of your own home!
