How to Move on after Divorce

By: James Walsh

The pains and miseries suffered when a marriage fails might take several months or even years to sink in depending upon the individuals. However, one has to overcome all the disturbances and should lead his or her life steadily. It is highly important to move on with their life. Here are some of the tips for the sufferers to proceed with their business after divorce.

Be with Supportive People: It is very important to spend time with the people whom they feel would have real affection for them. They should share all their thoughts and feelings with them. One should not dwell on the loneliness and stare at the dark. They must talk to the people and mingle with others even if their social ties change after divorce. They should garner the support from their family members, friends and relatives that could be their great strength at times of crisis.

Go back over the Years: They should try to get back the life they had before marriage. They should go back over the years and try to revoke how they were before they got married. They should feel young and should take care of their worn-out image and dark circles under their eyes. The hair which had lost its beauty should be revitalised. By finding out the earlier images, one can repossess the strengths.

Make use of Professionals: There are umpteen number of professionals to help the person to come out of the palpable woes. By following their advice systematically, they can experience a change in their lives. The professionals might be their family doctor, therapist, counsellors or psychiatrists.

Plan for the Future: They should fix up a goal and create an action plan to accomplish it. Taking steps everyday towards the accomplishment of the vision would help the persons to move on and will not allow them to think of the bitter experiences in the past. Gradually, these small steps might fetch them a huge relaxation and achievement. They should think of their strengths and try to promote them.

Strengthen Your Career: Although one might be in distress, and not in terms with reality, they should try to sell themselves in the career market. It would engage them all the time, and they might try to become workaholic. They can use their talents to meet out the demands of the organisation.

Enjoy being Single: Being alone is not a curse; one can also turn it into an opportunity to celebrate the life as they wish. They can enjoy living alone as they could do whatever they want and can spend life without any responsibility.

Take Care of Yourself: One should eat healthy foods and try to avoid being addicted to alcohol, drugs and other bad habits. Allowing the distress, trauma and anger to enter into the heart will affect the health of the persons badly. They can exercise regularly and should take enough rest. They should keep their body fit.

Involve in Social activities/Services: In general, people would feel comfortable and would get a relief from their problems if they help someone to come out from their miseries. It would help them to shift the focus from them and allow them to think of other human beings. When they treat others’ problem as their own, and try to solve it, they would be deeply involved in that, forgetting their worries.

Be Magnanimous: Magnanimity not only reduces the anger, but also gives the person good traits. Forgiveness would help to minimise the anxiety and would keep the level of blood pressure down. Tit for tat attitude will not help the persons in any way; rather it would give unnecessary tensions and would spoil their life.

Maintain a Journal: Persons can choose a journal and can let out their thoughts uninterruptedly. They should record all their thoughts regularly in a journal that could help them to look back and see how far they have come. This might be an outlet for all their emotional disturbances.
