Foods with Hidden Fat

By: Chester Ku-Lea

If you’re trying to cut down your fat intake and get yourself in shape this summer, look out for foods with hidden fat. We know the obvious fatty foods such as chocolate and cookies, but what about some of your favorite foods that may be a little sneakier.

You may be surprised at some of the foods on this list and hopefully this will get you to look a little more closely at the foods in your fridge and kitchen cupboard.

Avocados - There's 17 grams of fat per 100 grams of avocado. Although avocados are healthy for you, in terms of their vitamin and nutritional value they are high in fat and you should limit your intake to one or two per week.

Cheese - There is 33 grams of fat in 100 grams of cheese. Cheese should not be a staple in your diet. You should eat cheese as more of a delicacy. Stay away from eating foods with high amounts of cheese, such as pizza and grilled cheese sandwiches and try eating low fat cottage cheese over harder cheeses.

Peanut butter - In average, there are 50 grams of fat per 100 grams of peanut butter. Now a days there are many varieties of peanut butter, so choose a variety that is natural and look for jars that are sugar free.

Mayonnaise - There are 79 grams of fat per 100 grams of regular mayonnaise. If you can, look for ways to replace mayonnaise on your favorite sandwich with herbs, tomatoes or flax seed oil.
