Essential elements of a Very powerful mastermind group

By: Lanny Morton

Starting a mastermind group is a great way to surround yourself with positive people. Your mastermind group becomes your personal "Board of Directors" for your life, looking out for your best interest.

The number of people to start a group with may vary. I would avoid groups that are too small (1-4 people) and start with at least 5 or more. 8-13 is an ideal number and prevents group disintegration caused by people moving or losing interest.

Consistency is key when selecting a date and time of the week to hold your group meetings. People tend to follow a routine, so having it at the same time and place helps with regular attendance.

The ideal place to hold a mastermind group is free of distractions. Attempt to avoid crying babies, phones ringing and other background noise so the group can focus on the meeting. Library conference rooms are really good.

The first meeting should give an overview of what the process is all about. Your mastermind group should have rules to be followed, such as, no cell phones, must be on time and must show up.

I recommend starting the mastermind group with a 10 week study on the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. This book really lays a great foundation of principals of success. We have had incredible success with groups using this book and creating amazing results.

The time the meeting should last should be at least an hour and not to exceed 1 1/2 hours. Prevent one person from doing all the talking and keep the conversation moving using everyone at the meeting for different ideas.

Each person should come to the meeting with the idea of contributing to others. Being about others in the mastermind group is powerful because it creates a situation where each person has a group contributing to them and their life.
