Do Anti-Wrinkle Creams Really Work?

By: Geoff Hopkins

There is no debating the popularity of wrinkle creams. With such an incredible number of products available on the market, there certainly is something driving the market motivation and it is not all just brilliant advertising. In fact, many anti-wrinkle creams on the market seem to invest very little into the advertising yet huge sums of money into the development and scientific research.

Using the size of the marketplace as a gauge of the effectiveness of the products in the market would be foolishness. Just because there are ton's of products, it doesn't mean that any of them actually work. We need to look at the science and theory behind removing wrinkles, the causes of wrinkles and the causes of reduction in wrinkles to see if they can actually be effective.

Wrinkles are fine lines and more visible deeper lines on our skin. The skin of our face is most commonly affected by the appearance of wrinkles. It's interesting to note that wrinkles don't always appear to the eye as detailed lines, but often reveal themselves in the form of shadows particularly around the eyes area.

Normally, wrinkles appear as we get older. However, aging isn't the only thing that causes wrinkles. Over exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles to appear at a very young age. Smoking also increases the process of skin decay which causes wrinkles. There are other environmental factors that cause our skin to get dehydrated and lose it's ability to stay healthy. It can't retain moisture and the texture starts to decay.

The good news is that this damage does not have to be permanent. With the aid of moisturizers and/or specifically formulated ant-wrinkle creams damage is reversible. Even the act of applying creams by way of a light, gentle massage stimulates blood flow to our skins tissues encouraging the healing process.

While not all wrinkle creams have the right ingredients, most of them do and they can significantly help your skin to rehydrate, causing the skin to become more firm, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Some of the important ingredients include Ascorbyl Palmitate, Idebenone, Collagen, and Alpha Lipoic Acid. These all have a specific function in rehydrating and firming the skin. UV protection is also another common helpful ingredient in wrinkle treatment creams to help prevent further sun damage.

Certainly most anti-wrinkle products will contain ingredients that are unique to its own formula, and each product is developed with a specific aim towards the overall intention of combating wrinkles. It is recommended that a product should be trialed for a minimum of 30 days to properly evaluate its effectiveness, although some products will give you visible results in as little as two weeks or less.

The question may not be "do anti-wrinkle creams work?", but "which product is right for me?" When searching for a product that will work for you, it is reassuring that many great formulas will offer you a trail and may even be backed with a money back guarantee.
