Dancing Your Way to Being Physically Fit

By: Chester Ku-Lea

With the popularity of shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars, many people are taking up dancing themselves. It's a bit of a fad right now, but what a great way to get in shape. If you think dancing is easy, try dancing around in your living room for ten minutes. You will notice that it takes a little more effort then you thought. Even harder, will be joining a class that has some actual set moves and goes on for an hour.

You ever notice the legs on a professional ballerina? They are very muscular. Dancing is largely aerobic so it works on your heart and lungs; however, muscular endurance and balance are required as well. And it's fun. You can go with a friend or your partner, or meet new people. In other parts of the world such as Brazil or Spain, dancing is simply part of the regular routine and because of that they are usually slimmer and seem happier. There is no question that dancing is an uplifting exercise that promises a better mood during and after.

For the average person dancing will burn up about 160 calories in 45 minutes (not bad). You can take up a wide range of dance styles from Hip Hop, Salsa, Flamenco, Ballroom, Swing and many more.

If you want to start with an at home video to get some level of comfort first, check out some of these. But there is no replacing the fun that comes with partners and other couples. After awhile, you can show your moves off at a live band night at a local club. Great way to live life and get in shape at the same time.
