Chanel - Status Symbol of the Rich and Famous

By: Shauna Moline

Chanel is a name so well known in the perfume business that nearly everyone of any consequence will know about it and will recognize its distinctive logo, and there is no doubt that Chanel perfume is the very last name in quality as well as style making it amongst the most highly regarded of all perfumes.

Sadly, many imitators have tried to sully the great name of Chanel by making cheap knockoffs and selling them to all those who wanted to pretend to be rich and famous. It has been especially prevalent in third world countries, such as Thailand and India, where the police do not care for trademarks as we do in America.

You may well wonder what it is about Chanel perfume that sets it apart from the rest and why women cannot do without it, and the answer is easily available when one considers the vision of its founder Coco Chanel who wished for women to wear perfumes that gave them a sense of freedom and of belonging to an important part of society. Though she may not have realized just how well her vision would become reality, today there is no denying the fact that Chanel perfumes are the very epitome of perfumes.

Flash forward to today, where Hollywood celebrities and famous people all over the world are wearing the Chanel perfume. They choose it because it represents status, it represents fame, it represents a person of high-society, just like Coco envisioned.

Such free advertising and also the effect of celebrities endorsing Chanel perfume has made millions of women want to own a bottle of such perfume for them, thus contributing to the success of this brand even more.

Of course it helps to have a hundred years to tweak your marketing plan, and that's an area Chanel is not weak in. They have kept an edge on the marketing campaign, such as hiring Nicole Kidman to be the face of Chanel and producing an advertising film starring the actress. They are on top of their game and their profit margin reflects their great successes.

One of the most popular perfumes, Chanel No. 5, was created by a man named Ernest Beaux. He blended ylang-ylang and jasmine with neroli and rose to make one of his most beautiful masterpieces. No one outside the company actually knows the exact blending, but I think we can all agree it's perfect. There is even a rumor that a bottle of Chanel No. 5 sells somewhere in the world every thirty seconds. Whether or not that is true, what is true is this: Chanel is doing very well for its owners.

A 1.7 oz bottle of Chanel No. 5 will run you about $80 if you buy from a department store, but search around and you'll get a 2.5 oz for the same price. Chanel is the way to let the world know you have arrived, so if you want to move up the ranks in to high-society, grab a bottle of Chanel No. 5.
