Yes, of course they can. The problem is, as with all other internet marketing methods, they are not always executed correctly. Fresh unique content is key in the article directory marketing method. Not only in your articles themselves, but as well in the pages they link to. You must think of the 800-1200 keyword-rich articles you will be submitting to article directories as an appetizer leading the search engine spiders to your main course. Don't use any of your articles on your site, due to search engines cracking down on duplicate content. Do not give all the info and knowledge on a specific niche in your keyword-rich articles. Think appetizer!

Directory Submissions

If you submit an article to 500 article directories. You get 500+ backlinks. The plus is because article directories' main purpose is to provide webmasters with content as long as they include the resource box or author's links. The downside to you using keyword-rich articles is that after so many pages have been spidered with this content is that it is no longer unique. The pages your articles link to must be unique in everyway possible, especially link structure. The more unique and rare the content is, the more weight it recieves from the article backlink. Your link must be anchored on your top keyword. Example! If my site is an article directory, then I would use the word phrase "article directory" to represent my hyperlink back to my site. I realize that many article directories don't allow this form of linking. For those that don't, be sure to include your keyword at least twice before and after your link. Submit as many articles as you can, as often as you can. One article can provide you with unlimited backlinks. It has been days when I was submitting to article directories and felt like I would never finish.
