At night the extra pounds melt away

The research department of the American university Columbia has discovered that those who like to sleep longer have less problems with extra weight than those who sleep very little during the day.

Amazing statistical data was published some time ago. Data which will be well liked by those who would want to lose weight with as little effort as possible. You won’t wake up skinny after three days of sleep, even if you work hard at it. However more sleep does help with weight loss. The university published following results:

•If you sleep 2 to 4 hours daily there is a 73% chance that you will have more problems with extra weight than those who sleep normally.

•If you sleep 5 hours daily this chance is reduced to 50%.

•If you sleep 6 hours daily this chance is reduced to 23%.

And the most amazing discovery: Those who sleep 10 or more hours daily have 11% less a chance to have problems with extra weight, compared to other people. Hence good sleep helps reduce the chance of having extra weight.

What’s the trick?

The research shows a connection between body weight and the amount of sleep. A specific reason has not been yet discovered. It is most probable that sleep is connected with production of hormones that influence our appetite. The more you sleep the less of these hormones which affect our eating habits are being produced.

Just sleep is not enough

It is not our intention to argue with exercise, healthy food and a healthy lifestyle. You must understand that during sleep you will not miraculously lose weight. A direct connection between sleep and body weight is still to be discovered. And only then can we expect a revolution in diet programs.



In the meantime don’t totally give up on exercise and health care.

Even if sleep really helps with weight loss it will not be enough. You will need to do more. Still it feels good to know that you are doing something about you weight while sleeping late into the day.
