By: Bill Phillips

Airsoft guns emerged on the scene just a few short years ago and have now inspired many airsoft fans around the country. Not only are they used in "airsoft games" but have become collectors items due their detailed reproduction of real guns.

There a many types of Airsoft guns made for a wide range of customers. Kids usually are attracted to the lower-end models which can be bought at a reasonable price from sporting goods stores, Wal-Mart, and on eBay. The higher-end Airsoft guns are usually bought online. There are a few traditional brick and mortar stores that cater specifically to the Airsoft enthusiast.

Before you purchase an Airsoft gun you need to know the different types. The following are the different types of Airsoft guns:

1. If you are looking for a starter airsoft gun the mini electrics are ideal. Using only batteries to shoot a bb, they do not require much effort to shoot.

2. The Spring Airsoft Pistols are single action guns that are great starter for those wishing to own a replica of famous guns.

3. Airsoft Spring Rifles - The Airsoft rifles are single action, single shot with a bit more power and accuracy than pistols. You will pay a little more for them too.

4. Gas Airsoft Guns - These are guns that use either CO2 or green gas to shoot the BB. There is very little effort involved in shooting these guns. These types of guns have a more realistic feel when they recoil after a shot.

5. Electric Airsoft Guns - Also known as an "AEG" these guns are larger versions of the mini electrics above. They too use batteries to engage a motor to propel the BB.

You can find Airsoft guns very easily online. eBay is a great place to shop for cheaper guns but buyer beware. Look for guns that are not made in China. Though they are cheaper, the quality is lacking substantially. Other countries from Asia that make Airsoft Guns seem to be fine.
